Your Next Eight-Pack of Urban Chestnut Beer Could Support Local Animal Shelters

Urban Chestnut Brewing Company (UCBC), one of St. Louis’ premier craft breweries, takes its affinity for animals—shelter pets, to be exact—quite seriously. Their specialty may be brewing up delectable batches of artisanal, modern American- and European-style beers, but teaming up with Purina has helped the brand cultivate a local identity promoting the beauty of shelter-pet adoptions.

This year’s partnership between the two brands begins with a promotion that runs June through August. For every eight-pack of Urban Underdog American Lager sold to retailers through the end of August, Purina will donate $5 to the Petfinder Foundation, a nonprofit that awards grants to shelters to care for homeless pets and nurse them to adoptable condition. The organization’s ultimate, noble mission is to prevent euthanasia of adoptable pets. Out of the need, a vital partnership between UCBC and Purina came to life.

“As someone who has two rescue dogs and co-owns pet-friendly breweries, I consider this partnership to be a no-brainer,” says David Wolfe, co-owner and co-founder of UCBC. “Working with Purina to find homes for more shelter pets is a win for the pets, their owners and our community—and we are proud to do our part.”

The donations will also help offset the costs of shelter-pet adoption fees, working to remove as many obstacles as possible between shelter pets and loving, forever homes. If last year’s partnership is any indication, it’s a highly impactful effort. Last year the promotion raised nearly $50,000, which went directly to offset the cost of pet-adoption fees at area animal shelters and rescues.

This year’s #ConsiderAShelterPet summer campaign proves to be even more ambitious. For 2018, Purina will donate up to $100,000 to the Petfinder Foundation, accumulated by the $5 donations from every eight-pack of Urban Underdog American Lager, which will fund $25 subsidies toward individual pet-adoption fees through the end of August 2018.

“Our partnership with Urban Chestnut is based on our mutual passion for pets and our shared desire to bring people and pets together,” says Libby Davidson of Purina’s pet welfare team. “By working together through Purina’s #ConsiderAShelterPet summer program, we can give pet-lovers and beer-lovers alike a simple way to help local adoptable pets find forever homes.”

Purina will also sponsor UCBC’s Dog Day Friday series, an evening pet-friendly event series at the brewery’s location in The Grove. Each event will feature UCBC beer, food, games and activities encouraging pet adoptions, while 20% of food and libation sales will also benefit shelters. It’s another way both organizations plan to raise even more awareness about the partnership and celebrate the important pets who enrich our lives.
