Watch St. Louis’ Emerging Fashion Elite Battle it Out for a Big Prize at Pins and Needles

 In Event, Style

On Oct. 4, you could curl up on your couch and watch re-runs of “Project Runway.” Or, you could watch some of the heartland’s best fashion talent duke it out live right here in St. Louis.

That’s right: Brainchild Events’ 10th-annual Pins and Needles fashion design competition is coming back for another year. Five emerging designers from across the Midwest (and one from Arizona—but don’t worry, she’s an UMSL grad) are bringing their best collections to a fast-paced runway show in hopes of winning a $10,000 grand prize to help launch their careers. And the money isn’t the only motivation. They’ll be judged by a panel of St. Louis’ fashion elite, including representatives from ALIVE favorite Saint Louis Fashion Fund, as well as the audience themselves—you can tweet your vote for the People’s Choice award live from your seat.

That kind of exposure is crucial to emerging designers, and it’s paid off for past Pins and Needles contestants, who have gone on to show their work on “America’s Next Top Model,” New York Fashion Week, and, yes, the real “Project Runway.”

Watch St. Louis’ Emerging Fashion Elite Battle it Out for a Big Prize at Pins and NeedlesThis years competitors are Yasi Fayal of Chesterfield; Roger Figureoa of Lenexa, Kansas; Elyse Flores of Chesterfield; Lily Guilder of Nashville, Tennessee; Khadi Ray of Chandler, Arizona; and Emma Rubinson of St. Louis. And this crop of designers is particularly lucky—Brainchild’s Dwight Carter has shared that this will be the final edition of Pins and Needles, so this really is their last chance to claim the prize.

Pins and Needles will take place on Oct. 4 at the Boo Cat Club, and tickets are on sale now. Doors at 6 p.m., show at 7:30 pm.
