Urban Chestnut Partners With Purina To Encourage Shelter Pet Adoption

There’s a new hero in St. Louis fighting on behalf of shelter animals: Urban Underdog, the American lager by Urban Chestnut Brewing Company.

The popular craft beer company knows there are many pets in need of good homes, which is why they have partnered with Purina for the company’s annual Consider A Shelter Pet campaign. This year’s campaign concludes with the Better Together Adoption Event, which will feature more than 200 adoptable pets on Saturday, October 21 in Soulard. More than 20 local shelters will be on hand to help spur the adoptions of loving cats and dogs in need of a home.

From now until the day of the event, for every specially marked, eight pack of Urban Underdog American Lager sold, Purina will donate $3 to the Petfinder Foundation to help offset the cost of adoption fees at the adoption event and participating area shelters. And according to a recent Purina Gateway Study, only 27 percent of household pets are adopted from shelters nationwide—which they believe is due, in part, to some common misconceptions about the behavior, health and age of shelter pets. But falling in love with a smiling canine or friendly feline at the Better Together Adoption Event very well may change minds.

The Consider A Shelter Pet campaign has grown every year since its inception, from a very small affair to a few thousand people, resulting in hundreds of new homes for animals in need. But this year, Purina wanted to do something to include the craft beer community, and UCBC was a natural fit.

“Urban Chestnut shares our passion for pet-related causes, as well as our sincere belief that pets and people are better together,” says Libby Davidson of the Purina Pet Welfare Team. “By working together, we’re giving fellow pet-lovers two ways to help local shelter pets: buy beer and consider adding a four-legged family member to your home.”

Urban Chestnut Brewing Company is as pet-friendly as they come, frequently donating time, money and resources to animal causes around the metropolitan area. “We’ve been passionate supporters of local pet adoption agencies and causes since the day we opened our doors,” said David Wolfe, co-owner of the brewery. “Every day at our pet-friendly breweries, we see the benefits of people being together with their pets and the positive atmosphere it creates. Our partnership with Purina will help more shelter pets find their forever homes, and that benefits everyone in the St. Louis community.”

UCBC also sponsors “Dog Day Fridays,” or dog-friendly days on the east lawn of their brewery in the Grove where customers and locals can stop by with their beloved canines to enjoy the weather, cold beer and grilled brats.
