An Eclectic, Reasonably Priced Lunch Spot in Downtown St. Louis

 In Food, Guide

If you’ve never tried a PB&J made with chile-garlic peanut butter, bacon, jalapeno, sriracha and red plum jelly before, take a cue from the Downtown St. Louis lunch crowd who have taken full advantage of Good Buddy’s Tasty Soups and Sandwiches. Less-adventurous diners need not fear, as you’ll still find classic meat- and vegetable-based favorites like the pastrami, reuben and grilled cheese, but with a twist.

Helmed by brothers Nathan and Luke Ragain and Justin Gibson, the proprietors were set on bringing a fresh new offering to Downtown, the kind that would allow them to explore creative flavor pairings and cultural influences from all over the world in their cuisine—like the Banh Mi So Tasty, for example. The dish comes with Vietnamese meatballs, pickled daikon, cucumber, shredded carrot, red onion, cilantro, jalapenos, thai chili sauce and sriracha, but diners can also choose from cuisine with a concept that’s closer to home like the Chicago roast beef, made with house-roasted beef, au jus and roasted red bell peppers, served with mild giardiniera and cherry-pepper relish upon request.

Vegans and vegetarians, don’t fear: there’s the veggie wrap, made with sushi rice, marinated green beans, pickled daikon, cucumber, carrots, red onion and thai chili sauce, or you could opt for the grilled cheese, made with gruyere, provel, carmelized onion, roasted garlic and sauteed spinach. Plus, all sandwiches are priced at $9 and below—so lunch with coworkers doesn’t have to drain your wallet.
