Celebrate a Green Valentine’s Day

While Valentine’s Day wasn’t actually invented by greeting card, candy, and flower companies, it’s definitely turned into a business bonanza for them: about a billion cards get sent, and 36 million heart-shaped boxes of chocolate are purchased… just for starters. Yep, it’s an orgy of consumption… with, no doubt, a pretty ugly lifecycle all around.

A fully committed environmentalist might argue that the only way to green Valentine’s Day is to skip it… but your partner or spouse may find “Sweetie, we’re saving the planet” underwhelming (and we know what that means for the end of the evening). Fortunately,… more …

Sweet Charity

I’m a sucker for all-things chocolate—anything dipped-in, coated-with or straight-up. From bacon to bananas, if it’s made with high-quality, milk or dark chocolate, chances are I’ll like it. So when I received a recent press release from local chocolatier, Chocolate Chocolate Chocolate Company announcing their new line of chocolates, Dreams, I was instantly intrigued.

Appropriately titled, the new Dreams chocolates are made with a variety of fresh fruit puree (strawberry, key lime, orange, blackberry), enrobed in pure milk and dark chocolate. I Scream for Gelato

Gelato has it rough. It’s not the classic, cool American treat; it doesn’t have the same appeal for most as a bowl of  rocky road and kids don’t hit the ground running when they hear the “gelato” man driving down the block. St. Louis has always been an ice cream or frozen custard town—but if you ask me where I’m going for dessert or where I go for a break from the summer heat, it’s most often Gelateria Tavolini.
