Poses for Pausing

noah
This weekend I did a yoga workshop with this guy. His name is Noah Maze. He definitely creates warriors on the yoga mat (and perhaps beyond). I walked into the workshop and noticed how many of the people there were buff and beautiful. It was a bit intimidating.

As we went through the rigorous routine I found myself stretched and growing in more ways than one. At one point in the workshop Noah had us all gather around him, dripping in sweat with beating red faces we crowded around and watched him magically float into the posture above. All I… more …

Lovin’ Leo & Libra

Good-Libra-Magnet-C11749839
Okay, I fell a little behind this weekend on my writing but not to worry I was able to spend some time on honoring my inner Leo and Virgo.

Saturday was time to love me some Leo. So here were the themes:

Leo -Saturday April 9th

Think before speaking

Use strength to help others, not to dominate them

Be more empathetic; understand another’s perspective

Be sensitive to another person’s feelings

Don’t be the center of attention

Spending time with my mom and an ex on Saturday proved to be a solid test on my empathy skills. I have been known… more …

Planting Seeds

Today I had to go from a Planned Parenthood board meeting to a New Moon group and in between pick up my fairshares from CSA. Needless to say I was as per normal running behind. I slipped out of the end of the board meeting hoping too many people didn’t notice my abrupt departure, flew in on one wheel six minutes before the farmers were calling it a day and didn’t have time to check one more grocery store for parsley seeds for the New Moon meeting. I spent a few hours day on a mad hunt for parsley… more …

More on Michael Eastman

EastBUST
I knew that meeting photographer Michael Eastman was going to be a big deal but I had no idea just how many life, work and spiritual truths would be revealed in our not-long-enough time together.

Eastman, a world-renowned fine art photographer, taught himself how to shoot. His photographs have been acquired by respected institutions such as Metropolitan Museum of Art, San Francisco Museum of Art and San Diego Museum of Contemporary Art. He has traveled the world taking pictures of his subjects, which range from horses in Montana, post-Katrina New Orleans and depressed houses in Cuba. Overwhelmingly, Eastman has… more …

Vega Deli Coming to Central West End

Vega Deli tacos
Vegan. Raw. Gluten-free. Diners ask and restaurants respond. Less of a “special request” nowadays, the niche food-needs and choices of consumers are mainstream. Locally, you can order raw vegetarian lasagna at Scape American Bistro, enjoy a chocolate vegan cupcake at Sweet Art, bite into a slice of gluten-free pizza at Pi or enjoy raw, organic French fries or tacos at Vega Deli.

With a healthy and eco-conscious philosophy, vegan owners opened the all-natural café earlier this year in Chesterfield—and are now set to open a second location at the corner of Belt and Pershing in the Central West End. Not… more …

How much do I owe?

Courtesy of Bing Images
When it comes to gift giving in relationships, are there strings attached? My boyfriend insisted on buying me a new cell phone. I choose the T-Mobile G2. Now, he is constantly taking it from me and “joking” I should take his crappy phone and let him have mine. Why? Oh, that’s right, because he paid for it. Here I was thinking it was a gift. Never mind that he nagged me until I caved in to letting him bestow this trinket upon me. I told him I’d be happy to write him a check for the phone so he’d drop… more …

If you be my bodyguard – I can be your long lost pal

rating_stealth_100
OK. So in this weeks app or crap, we are not actually considering the lyrics to the Paul Simon song You Can Call Me Al as the title to this post may suggest. We are actually taking a look at a handy little application that is available for both the iPhone (free or up to 2.99) and the Blackberry (0.99).

What I am talking about is an app called Silent Bodyguard (http://www.silentbodyguard.com/Silent_Bodyguard/Main.html) that can send out SOS email, text, twitter, and Facebook alerts that provide others with your GPS location. The app works silently – so if you are ever… more …

Let’s Sleep on It!

Official 'App or Crap-o-Meter' Rating
Do you like sleeping? Are you into polysomnography? Well, then this may be the app for you.

The Sleep Cycle alarm clock’s primary goal is to (1) monitor + analyze your sleep using the built-in accelerometer + (2) wake you at the most optimal time. Being subject to poor sleep + having even been involved in a couple of medical sleep studies, I was amped up to check this app out after all of the positive reviews + the cheap price point. It is touted to help you establish a good sleeping pattern based upon your personal sleep history.… more …

Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes…Knees and Toes

rr-kids-being-read-to.-web-
Today was my first day of reading to preschoolers (ages 3-5) through the nonprofit Ready Readers. I had my two books (Painting Mice and Does a Cow Say Boo?) and a stack of blank nametags in hand. As I approached the classroom door, I realized I was nervous. What if the kids don’t like me? What if I’m not organized enough? What if they don’t pay attention?

I walked in and the teacher greeted me with a beaming smile. She told the kids that I was there to read for them and asked them to sit down around a… more …
