Introducing: ALIVE StyleList E-Newsletter!

As ALIVE’s longtime Fashion Editor, I’ve earned a reputation as one who is in-the-know on the fashion front. Local designers spoil me with sneak-peeks of their upcoming collections; I get to preview stores before they open (thank you, Nordstrom); and boutique owners give me the scoop on what they saw at the various buying markets, and when their most exciting shipments will arrive. Let’s just say STL’s many style sources have never been shy about sharing news with me—and it’s high time I start sharing the love.

Now, ALIVE’s fashion-happy readers can receive the StyleList e-newsletter from me each… more …

“Oh So Zoe” is Oh So Fun

If you can’t wait for Rachel Zoe’s new clothing line to debut exclusively at Neiman Marcus in August, luckily there’s a little something to hold you over. Zoe fans can get a sneak peak by participating in an interactive challenge, “Oh So Zoe.” The game, which is accessed through the Neiman Marcus Facebook page, allows fans to customize virtual ensembles with pieces from Zoe’s collection.

From Jet Set to City Dressing to Life’s a Red Carpet, you can chose from different styling occasions and submit your customized outfits (trust me, it’s a blast!). Then, in your most convincing Rachel Zoe… more …

Where the Scents Have No Name

mmm
If you have yet to warm-up to the unexpected, innovative, oft-radical ways of Maison Martin Margiela, it’s likely because you wrote-off the line as “too cool for school” years ago; the clothes are off-kilter, the website appears primal and any points directed anywhere near “making sense” are clearly missing from its mission statement. However, strange bird that I am (or so I’ve been told by my family), I love it—and so was stoked when I recently received the press release hyping the first Maison Martin Margiela fragrance. Thankfully, it fulfilled all of my expectations…

Moving: The Future Antiques

tfa
Announced on Friday, owner Claude Denis and the team at TFA The Future Antiques (314.865.1552)—that’s right, “Your Retro Plex”—will be packing up and moving out this July, from their current Morgan Ford storefront in the Tower Grove neighborhood to a yet-to-be-determined South City location. The E-blast cited “unexpected circumstances” as the reason, and promised an outstanding grand re-opening celebration—and markdowns during the transition. My longtime go-to for Mid-Century modern furniture, clothing and accessories, I was at first concerned (I fear change)—but then realized that this “markdowns” aspect could prove awesome, as I am in the market for some fab new… more …

Interview: Designer Laura Kathleen Planck

LK copy
I thought I knew all there was to know about mega-talented, undeniably-beautiful Laura Kathleen Planck; I’ve co-produced her runway shows, I’ve featured her designs in editorials, I’ve cheered from the audience while viewing her collections, runway-side. I knew I liked her, and loved her work—but I didn’t know how much we “clicked” until a few weekends back. We were both asked to “jury” the Missouri State fashion design students’ collections one Saturday, and—that night—found ourselves bonding over drinks at Springfield’s JOB bar. Surrounded by frat bros, we talked business, dreams, relationships and more, and—in the end—I left an LK superfan…… more …

Trending: Baby Fever!

sarah
While out and about, shopping my favorite boutiques, I couldn’t help but notice a trend—that had nothing to do with clothes. One by one, shop girls all over town began confiding in me that they were expecting—and, little by little, I started to notice their matching, expanding baby bumps.

For the entire nine months, each somehow managed to remain on-trend and super-chic. Impressed, I made it my mission to get their secrets to a stylish pregnancy…

As she’s been in the biz for years, I was thrilled to hear that local jewelry designer extraordinaire Sutton Lasater was taking her line to the next level; she launched suttonlasater.com just last week, granting lovers of her Sutton Lasater Jewelry collection the opportunity to purchase fashion and custom earrings, necklaces and bracelets online. Finally!

Rush to Rung: Spring Cleaning for a Cause

SpringFlorals1
If you’re like most, you dread spring cleaning—and would welcome any incentive to get the ball rolling. Rung to the rescue! Now through May 31, the Rock Hill-based resale boutique is offering a 20-percent discount on a total purchase to anyone who makes a donation of new or gently-used business attire. The Scoop: Goodwill Outlet

shopping_300x400
There’s a good chance you’ve seen the billboards, or have driven by the old Macy’s warehouse and noticed that it’s plastered with a new label. If you’re a thrift fiend like me, you’ve undoubtedly been curious. A Goodwill Outlet? What in the world…? The signs have offered a bit of scoop, including the fact that the store will open May 5—and a “Buy the Bag” tagline suggests that its prices will be pound-based. While I’ve never shopped such a store, I know others who have claimed to partake in such merriment. They weren’t messing with me? This is blowing… more …
