Just say NO – It’s ‘say NO to powerpoint’ week

powerpoint is soooo passe

hot off the presses…. this just came across our (virtual) desktop via a fastcompany post. it is officially ‘say NO to POWERPOINT week‘! (cue the applause) hooray hoorah indeed!

we can certainly relate to the painful (as well as bloated) environment produced by overused transitions, stale templates/graphics, the unending parade of bulletpoints + fatty file sizes. welcome to the land of presentations… welcome to the land of powerpoint.

well, as we have alluded to in the past (but sadly never had the time to follow-up in detail as of yet… sniff sniff), there are now numerous options for digital presentations that we feel are far better + more engaging than the powerpoint stalefish. yes, you hear us correctly – presentations need not be boring nor take on the likes of a circus sideshow to keep the audience enthralled, breathless, + waiting with baited breath. with that in mind – we are gonna reveal a couple of alternatives below:

  • sliderocket makes awesome presos

sliderocket - (http://www.sliderocket.com/) we have been fans of this web app for years + have successfully been using it for presentations, pitches, educational slides, etc. it’s a cloud-based online presentation space that allows you to create sensational presos using a familiar drag-n-drop, WYSIWYG(rich) editor, visual interface we are all used to. further more, you can centralize, organize, share + reuse your slides. there are TONS more features available such as collaboration, integration with google docs, interactive charts, surveys + polls, measured learning, metrics, support for various multimedia + the list goes on. it’s a definite must-have + the price point is very affordable.

  • prezi makes even awesomer presos

prezi - (http://prezi.com/) prezi is an entirely different approach + attitude towards presentation. rather than have you move though a slide deck ad infinitum, it has the end user pan + move across a presentation landscape via zooming in + out, panning in all directions + rotating perspective. it has a awesome fluid feel (unless your working on a clunker) + looks like a promising contender in the world of digital presentation. we’ve been using this since last year + have only good things to say about it. check out this preso we did for a lecture on concept models.

there are a couple of other options out there (such as slideshare + slidesix); however, we prefer the ones mentioned above. so…what are you waiting for? join in this weeks digital cause + kick that overpriced PowerPoint to the curb! we think you will be surprised how glad it will make you feel.
