The Bartender: Riv Brogan

The Bar: Hamburger Mary’s, 3037 Olive St. St Louis, MO 63103

The Challenge:
In the spirit of our August Work Issue, we challenge bartenders to concoct the perfect after-work drink.

The Drink: Fruit Kobbler

2 muddled lemons
2 muddled oranges
3 muddled cherries
2 1/2 oz Absolut CherryKran
1 1/2 oz Grand Marnier
splash of simple syrup

With its unique burger menu, flamboyant interior and lighthearted waitstaff, Hamburger Mary’s is the perfect place to stop in for some much needed after-work drinks. Hamburger Mary’s is mainly known for its large burger menu and exciting events like Mary O’ke and cabaret entertainment although bartender Riv Brogan proved they know a thing or two about cocktails as well. She presented us with her specialty drink, an off-the-menu sweet drink known as the Fruit Kobbler, made with Absolut CherryKran, Grand Marnier and packed with various fruits.

My first thought after sipping this drink was that the Absolut CherryKran blended perfectly with all the muddled citrus fruits and cherries—the alcohol was only faintly noticeable. I wouldn’t be able to have more than one of these, due to the high sugar volume and intensity but I do think it’s perfect for someone in need of a sweet treat after a long workday.

What is your favorite drink?
I’m definitely a wine girl! Or vodka, if I’m making a mixed drink.

What’s the weirdest request you’ve gotten?
If someone can drink out of the shoes we serve our tickets in. The shoes are disgusting.

Someone orders ________ and you automatically know they have no idea what they’re talking about.
If someone orders a mojito and pronounces the j. Like Mo-jee-to. Or if someone orders a vodka and gin on the rocks. Nobody orders that.
